Words tumble out, with no pause;
From the pen, my anelace,
That I hold so graciously,
(In awe of its majesty, its power)
In my hand.

They form thoughts, hopes and musings;
Reflect my soul, my entire being,
And spread across the page,
Like scattered constellations
Across the sky.

Book Review

Scattered Constellations by Ankita Singh is a collection of free-verse poetry. It’s a collection of poems that have been written over-time, covering various experiences such as loss in the sense of heartbreak and friendship, desire, want etc.

I feel poetry no matter what style it’s written in, should be able to evoke feelings of emotional connection, and make that light go off in your head, making you think, analyze, sympathize and feel the plight of the poet and others who may have felt this way.

I love when I read poetry collections, and feel a sense of connection with an ominous feel to it but for this, I did not, not because the poems aren’t good, but it came across to me like prose, more or less reading the direct thoughts of the poet, like nicely worded diary entries.

It’s an okay debut, which I believe still needs a lot of work. But I think as time passes the poet will be able to shape and grow her signature artistic voice.

Disclaimer: I’m entitled to my own opinion, and it is my duty to both myself, my blog and readers I am absolutely honest about my feelings when reviewing a book, with that said, just because I didn’t really enjoy this book, it doesn’t mean another person will not find it interesting or very relatable.

About the Author

Ankita, though lives in the historical city of Aurangabad, spends most of her time between the pages of a book. If she’s not reading, she can be found scribbling ideas into her journal or petting her cat, Harry.

Ankita’s poetry collection ranked among the Top 15 while on Wattpad, a feat that she’s extremely proud of. She used to write under the pen name ‘Swibells’ until she realised that her own name isn’t all that bad. (Though she still manages to use her pseudonym at times!)

She’ll soon be starting her Bachelor’s in Arts, and is shocking excited about it! (She’s 18!)

Ankita is also an avid blogger at Anky’s Book Bubble, a blog where all she talks about is books! She loves interacting with her fellow bibliophiles, so don’t hesitate in contacting her through any of the below ways:

  1. Coincidentally, we are reading a poetry collection for next Monday’s review. Neither of us reads poetry consistently because prose is far easier to follow. So we’re challenging ourselves to read more out of our comfort zones and this includes nonfiction and poetry.
